A study was performed to investigate the effect of electrical stimulation on disused and denervated rat skeletal muscle(soleus). The microstructural changes on soleus were examined with electron microscope(Transmission Electron Microscope).
The results are summarized as follows.
First, Photomicrographs of soleus muscle in casting treated rat are convolution of Z-line and Myofilaments, and absence of M-line in some A-band. There are some vacuoles in A-band, I-band and A-I junction.
Second, also indentation of nuclear membrane, the absence of sarcolemma(arrow), and the convolted myofilaments.
Third, the soleus in electrical stimulated rat after casting are increased aspect of sarcosomes.
Fourth, also the repaired aspect of basal lamina in sarcolemma(allow).
Fifth, Denervated soleus are severe atrophic changed, also cannot finded any structural changed.
These results indicate that the electrical strmulation effected on soleus, delayed of muscular atrophy on disused muscle atrophy.
